Sentiment in Slovak industry deteriorated in May after two months of improvement. The confidence indicator in industry, according to a business outlook survey carried out by the Slovak Statistics Office (ŠÚ), decreased by 1.7 points to negative 0.7 points, which is 3.7 points below its long-term average.
"Development of the indicator was influenced in particular by an expected drop in industrial production in the next three months," the ŠÚ said on Wednesday, May 29, as quoted by the SITA newswire. The outlook for industrial production grew compared to the previous month. Most industrial sectors said they expect growth, the biggest being in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products, computers, electronic and optical products and transport equipment. Only a slight decrease was expected in generation of electricity, gas and steam, manufacture of electrical equipment, food and basic pharmaceutical products.
