The Constitutional Court has set a date to hear the complaint filed by General Prosecutor-elect Jozef Čentéš against the inactivity of President Ivan Gašparovič concerning his appointment, the TASR newswire was told by the court's spokesperson Anna Pančúrová on Monday, October 29. According to Pančúrová, the court in Košice is slated to deal with Čentéš's motion on November 20.
Čentéš initially filed the complaint in November 2011. He objected to the fact that his fundamental rights were violated when he was denied the right to take up the office of general prosecutor even though he was legally elected to the post by parliament on June 17, 2011. Moreover, the Constitutional Court ruled on October 24 that the President of Slovakia is legally obliged to appoint the candidate within an appropriate time frame or inform parliament that he/she refuses to do so and provide justification.
President's spokesman Marek Trubač said, however, that Gašparovič wants to wait for all Constitutional Court verdicts related to the matter to close as Čentéš's election in parliament was accompanied by numerous controversies.
