Construction output down in October

THE CONSTRUCTION output fell by 4.1 percent year-on-year in October to €448.5 million. After seasonal adjustment, it was by 0.3 percent lower than in September 2014, the Statistics Office (ŠÚ) informed on December 10.

The output realised by domestic construction companies dropped in October by 3.8 percent y/y to €427.7 million. Its share on total construction output was reduced by 0.2 percentage points y/y to 95.4 percent. The development of the domestic output was affected by a decline of work in new construction, renewals and enhancements by 8.8 percent y/y. The volume of repairs and maintenance works grew by 9 percent y/y.

Regarding the structure of the domestic output, new construction, renewals and enhancements constituted 69.8 percent, down by 1.1 percentage points compared to October 2013. The share of repairs and maintenance works grew to 28.2 percent y/y. In terms of output specification, the volume of civil engineering works dropped by 4.2 percent y/y and construction of buildings by 3.6 percent y/y. Construction of buildings represented 66.7 percent of the domestic output, civil engineering works accounted for 30.3 percent.

Non-domestic construction output carried out by construction companies dropped by 10.2 percent y/y. Its share constituted 4.6 percent out of the total output, according to ŠÚ.

During the first 10 months of 2014, construction output reached € 3.592 billion, down by 3.4 percent y/y. Domestic output fell by 3.1 percent y/y to €3.4039 billion. The volume of works in new construction, renewals and enhancements decreased by 4.6 percent y/y to €2.3967 billion. Repairs and maintenance works rose by 0.4 percent y/y to €957.5 million.

Non-domestic output fell by 8.6 percent y/y. In the structure of the domestic output, the share of new construction, renewals and enhancements decreased by 0.1 percentage points y/y to 70.4 percent. The share of repairs and maintenance works remained at 28.1 percent, ŠÚ informed.
