A new steam-gas power plant is going to be built next to the Coca-Cola Beverages factory in Lúka, near to Nové Mesto nad Váhom.
Marián Pavelka, PR director of Coca-Cola Beverages Slovakia, told the SITA newswire that ContourGlobal was supposed to erect the steam-gas cycle for Coca-Cola. Capital investments for the project are to amount to 15 million euros, which is currently over Sk500 million.
ContourGlobal will build fifteen steam-gas power plants in twelve countries, while the overall capital investment is estimated at 225 million euros. The company Coca-Cola Hellenic will provide plots for the power plant's construction next to existing factories. The company's long-term commitment to buy energy from the gas-steam cycle operated by ContourClobal during the contract's validity will guarantee the repayment of the invested capital.
The output of the steam-gas power plant next to the Coca-Cola factory should be from 0.2 to 3 megawatts (MW). The power facility could start to operate by late 2009, Pavelka reported.
Coca-Cola wants to cover its power consumption in this way. It selected a steam-gas cycle because its generation method will markedly reduce the factory's carbon dioxide emissions and can generate enough heat and electricity for the company's consumption. Excessive output will be sold to power distribution networks.
Coca-Cola is also planning construction of steam-gas cycles in Austria, the Czech Republic, Greece, Italy, Northern Ireland, Poland, Romania, Nigeria, Russia, Serbia and Ukraine. SITA
