The contract with the future operator of an electronic toll system for vehicles weighing of over 3.5 tonnes in Slovakia could be signed in

late April, Ľubomír Vážny, Minister of Transport, Posts and Telecommunications, said on February 11.

Five bids are expected to be submitted by mid March and their assessment will take a month, he said.

The tender completion will depend on potential revisions. The date of electronic toll introduction scheduled for January 1, 2009 is still valid. As a precaution, there is a "softer regime" option prepared in the event of

complications in the first quarter of the year.

The tender is estimated at Sk20 billion. The toll will be charged on about 2,400 kilometres of highways and roads. SITA
