CORPSES of mountain climbers Jan Matlák and Vlado Švancár, who died in Nepal last week, were transported to Slovakia. They were carried via a commercial flight to Vienna’s Schwechat airport on October 20, and then moved to Slovakia, Peter Susko, head of Slovakia’s Foreign Affairs Ministry press department, told the TASR newswire.
The seven remaining members of the group are still in Nepal. They are currently trying to arrange all their documents so they can soon return home, TASR wrote.
A 10-member ski mountaineering and climbing expedition was stricken by a massive snowstorm and subsequent avalanche in the area around the Mt Dhaulagiri on October 14. Seven Slovaks and one Czech survived, but two remaining Slovaks and the group’s Nepalese mountain guides were killed.
At the time there were another 41 Slovaks in Nepal. The Foreign Affairs Ministry still has not contacted six of them, Susko said.
