Corrupt military official sentenced to six months in jail

A senior officer with the Slovak Armed Forces (ASR) General Staff was given six months in prison and a Sk20,000 (€500) fine by the Military District Court in Bratislava for accepting a bribe.

The officer, 39, from the General Staff Operations Department, admits that she had demanded a bribe of $500 from a soldier on a peacekeeping mission in Eritrea in order to prolong his stay in Africa, the TASR news wire wrote.

The witness in the case is currently engaged in the peacekeeping mission. But it was based on his information that the police caught the officer red-handed in January.

She was also found to have meddled in the selection of soldiers to peacekeeping missions and in the prolongation of their stay in such missions.

The arrest was carried out by the Interior Ministry's Department for the Fight against Corruption, in cooperation with military intelligence.
