The Supreme Control Office, a public finance watchdog, has published the results of an investigation into an April 2001 corruption scandal involving alleged misuse of EU taxpayer money, saying while it found no direct corruption, it uncovered so many shortcomings in the documentation of projects receiving funds that corruption could not be ruled out. “It is difficult to break the rules when there are none,” said Jozef Stahl, head of the investigation.
