Two people have been accused within the corruption case concerning the allocation of state contributions from the State Fund for Housing Development. The Fund is tasked to support housing, especially for young families, through a system of advantageous loans and grants.
Alexander C., a man from outside the Fund, and Ján L., long-term employee of the Fund and former ministerial clerk, have been accused of the misdemeanour of indirect corruption and the crime of accepting a bribe on October 11, Police Corps President Tibor Gašpar told the SITA newswire.
The police started to investigate the case in July 2012, while informing the Ministry of Transport, Construction and Regional Development on the potential corruption at the Fund.
“Defendant Alexander C. as a person form outside, between January and October 2013 asked, at personal meetings, the applicants asking for state support in at least seven cases for €700 each, to secure a smooth approval of the request or loan,” Gašpar said.
Between May and July 2013, Ján L. “asked from several applicants financial and also non-financial services for him to influence the process of support’s approval”. Gašpar further informed, as quoted by SITA, that police will also evaluate the criminal responsibility of those who gave bribes and of other Fund’s employees without whom this corruption would not be possible. He added that the misdemeanour of indirect corruption can bring a sentence of up to three years in prison, and the crime of accepting a bribe three to eight years in prison.
