The Bratislava I District Court agreed on March 19 to begin bankruptcy proceedings for the Slovenské Aerolínie airlines.
Court President Gabriela Bulubášová invited all creditors to file their claims against the indebted airline company within 45 working days. The court's decision will take effect on the day of its publication in the Commercial Bulletin this week.
Ivan Klementis was appointed receiver of assets in bankruptcy. He was selected randomly by computer from 53 receivers registered with the Justice Ministry list for the Bratislava I District Court.
Bulubášová refused to provide more information about debts of the company. She expects a challenging and lengthy process of settling creditors' claims.
At the end of January, Slovenské Aerolínie cancelled all its regular flights from Bratislava to Brussels and Moscow. The company's majority shareholder, Austrian Airlines, took back the two planes it had made available to the company. The Austrian company justified the halt of operations with the Slovak government's reluctance to settle the company's hidden liabilities from the period of its privatization.
