The Bratislava Regional Court has confirmed the validity of objections made by Greenpeace against the Nuclear Supervision Office's (ÚJD) handling of its evaluation of the Mochovce nuclear power plant, Andrea Zlatňanská of Greenpeace Slovensko said on Tuesday, May 14.
Environmentalists have demanded that the preliminary security report drafted by the ÚJD during the process of the environmental impact assessment of the construction of the Mochovce nuclear blocks should be published in its entirety, or at least the non-confidential excerpts. The verdict is not final, however, since the ÚJD has the right to appeal.
"We're really glad to win this legal victory. The only taint is that ÚJD had to be forced by the court to publish information and communicate with the public. We hope that this verdict will help change the approach of the Office in the future," said Zlatňanská for the TASR newswire.
A dispute between Greenpeace and UJD started back in 2010, when the Office refused to share the preliminary security report with environmentalists when evaluating the construction of the proposed third and fourth blocks at Mochovce.
