THE OFFICE of the Prosecutor General did not accept a complaint by former interior minister Daniel Lipšic to reverse the 2004 privatisation of Bratislava-based electricity generator Steam-Gas Cycle (PPC), which he alleged caused the state a loss at about €500 million, the Aktuálne.sk website reported.
“The complaint has been postponed,” René Vanek, spokesperson for the Regional Office of the Prosecutor in Bratislava, told the website.
Lipšic responded to the decision by saying that nobody doubts the disadvantages of the sale of PPC to the Penta financial group, except for the Office of the Prosecutor General. But he added that he was not surprised by the verdict.
“I think that this decision only confirmed that it would be right if the people elected the prosecutor,” the former interior minister said, as quoted by the SITA newswire. “To elect honest and trustworthy prosecutors who would defend the public interest, and not the private interest of financial groups.”
Lipšic submitted a complaint over the PPC privatisation in March 2012, claiming that he did not understand why the privatisation committee agreed to sell the company for Sk2 billion (about €66 million), when one of its contracts guaranteed it profits of Sk15 billion (about €500 million).
