The so-called “Crazy Shops” chain in Slovakia may lose business after Slovak President Ivan Gašparovič signed an amendment to the law on narcotics, psychotropic substances and preparations which was prepared by the Ministry of Health and adopted by parliament on February 11. The legislation will add 43 substances to the list of banned narcotics and psychotropic substances beginning March 1, the SITA newswire reported.
Among them is mephedrone, recently banned in 13 EU countries, which is contained in various "souvenirs" sold in the Crazy Shops chain. The substances prohibited by this amendment are highly addictive and substituting them with more serious drugs is highly probable, the SITA newswire wrote. Slovakia’s Health Minister Ivan Uhliarik said that approximately 40 people have died in Europe after consuming mephedrone.
