After a disappointing start to the year, Slovak credit firms are reporting that more customers are now using credit for purchases. An initial drop in sales at the beginning of the year is blamed on increased energy prices.
"In the first weeks of this year we recorded a general fall in credit purchases, and in general interest in buying consumer goods. The situation has already stabilised," reported sales director of GE Capital Multiservis Branislav Katreniak.
There has, however, been an increase in direct credit, with 15,000 new customers registered in March alone for the OK card, which allows cash withdrawals on credit.
