INTERIOR Minister Vladimír Palko said that Slovak police were becoming increasingly more effective at solving crime.

In the first half of 2005 the police registered almost 65,000 crimes, which is 3,700 less year-on-year, the TASR news agency wrote.

Of these cases, police managed to close 31,666 cases.

"The figure is the highest, on the basis of the period from January to June, since 1993. It also proves the correctness of the reform [in the police force]," Palko said.
