THE CUBAN ambassador to Slovakia, Caridad Yamiri Cueto Milian, has vehemently attacked the Slovak Speaker of Parliament, Pavol Hrušovský.
In a letter responding to a query about a Cuban political prisoner, Cueto Milian wrote that the “dignity and morale of the people and the government of Cuba are high above the wretchedness of the likes of you”, according to the daily SME.
Martin Bútora, Slovakia’s former ambassador to the US said he could not recall such strong language being used in diplomacy even when relations between states were very strained.
According to some experts, the letter could be seen as an offence against one of the highest constitutional officers in Slovakia.
Hrušovsky said he was shocked with Cueto Milian’s reaction, adding, “I have never before encountered such a letter.”
