CULTURE Minister František Tóth will keep his job after only 59 MPs supported a motion of no-confidence in him that had been called by the opposition Movement for a Democratic Slovakia.
To recall a member of cabinet 76 votes are needed in the 150-seat legislature.
Of the 99 MPs present, however, only nine backed the minister by voting against the no-confidence motion. The majority of ruling coalition MPs abstained from voting, including most MPs from the Hungarian Coalition Party (SMK), the Hospodárske noviny wrote.
SMK Chairman Béla Bugár said his party had some reservations about Tóth's work in his post, but wanted to give the minister a chance to prove himself.
Tóth said he does not plan to step down voluntarily.
