Culture Minister: Marek Maďarič (Smer)

Marek Maďarič served as the culture minister in both previous governments of Robert Fico (2006-2010 and 2012-2016), this is his third term.

Marek Maďarič was born on March 23, 1966 in Bratislava. He served as the culture minister in both previous governments of Robert Fico (2006-2010 and 2012-2016), this is his third term.

During Smer’s time in parliamentary opposition Maďarič was the party’s MP.

Maďarič graduated from the University of Performing Arts in Bratislava in 1989 and went on to work as a editor-in-chief of the broadcast of the public-service Slovak Television. In 2002-2004 he acted as the deputy chair of the Council of the Slovak Television, a supervisory body.

Maďarič has been responsible for Smer’s election campaigns, including the campaign of party head Robert Fico in the presidential election in 2014. In his initial years in Smer, before becoming minister in 2006, he was the head of the party’s press department.

Maďarič also runs his own business, as a media consultant.
