CUSTOMS officers from the town of Michalovce in eastern Slovakia seized more than 82,000 bullets, cartridges and projectiles. A Ukrainian citizen attempted to smuggle the ammunition, hidden in the fuel tank of the passenger car, from Slovakia to his homeland through the Vyšné Nemecké border crossing.
“On June 6, customs officers checked a passenger car with a Michalovce license number at the Vyšné Nemecké border crossing in the line leaving Slovakia,” spokesperson of the Michalovce Customs Office Klára Baloghová told the TASR newswire. “The driver, a Ukrainian citizen, declared no goods exported from the country to Ukraine, even when challenged by the customs officer. Customs officers decided, however, to check the vehicle.” She added that they found 82,550 pieces of ammunition in the fuel tank: 1,950 6.35 Browning/25 cartridge cases (39 packages), 1,000 9mm P.A. Blanc shells and 79,600 4mm Flobert cartridges (398 packages).
The case was submitted to Michalovce’s police investigator, Baloghová concluded.
