Customs seize 1kg of amphetamine

A CZECH citizen who was transporting one kilogram of amphetamine was detained at Petržalka train station in Bratislava on March 5. According to the customs officers, it is the second largest amount of this drug ever seized in Slovakia. The street value of the drug would be around €75,000 - €300,000, according to the spokeswoman of the customs office, Martina Kereková, the ČTK newswire reported.

“According to the opinion of criminal experts the seized amount of drug could be used to produce about 7,500 to 15,000 single doses,” Kereková said.

The man could be sentenced to 15 to 20 years in prison.

The consular department of the Czech embassy in Bratislava did not confirm the detention of the man, explaining that they had not been officially notified.

The customs office intercepted an even larger amount of amphetamine three years ago – seven kilograms worth about €358,494 at the current conversion rate – in a car at a border crossing with Hungary.
