As Slovakia and Cyprus have no outstanding conflicts, the two speakers’ meeting was mainly concerned with the Cyprus Issue. Sulík said that the EU should adopt a stricter position on the matter, as quoted by the SITA newswire on March 14.

Sulík said that negotiations in the diplomatic arena should be intensified and more pressure should be brought to bear in order to achieve a solution that benefits all.

Garoyian thanked the Slovak government, the Parliament, and the Slovak people for their firm stance on the Cyprus issue, and expressed his gratitude to Slovakia for its military contingent in Cyprus, which contributes to preserving peace and security in the area. He concluded by commenting on the excellent relations between the Cypriot and Slovak parliaments and promised to increase cooperation within the EU.
