The deputy mayor of the Czech town of Kladno, Slavomír Cirnfus, has been charged with inciting racial hatred for issuing a decree barring all Romany children from the town's swimming pools, ČTK reported on June 17. Cimfus said he enacted the ban on the grounds that Romany youths are more likely to be carriers of hepatitis than non-Romanies. He denied that the decree was "motivated by intolerance."
