TWO YOUNG Czechs who set fire to a US flag during a speech by President George W Bush in Bratislava in February this year were expelled from Slovakia illegally, according to border police, which pronounced on an appeal by the Czechs, the daily SME reported.
In light of their decision the border police also cancelled the 10-year ban on entering Slovak territory that was handed out to the two Czechs.
Police spokesman Martin Kroch said that the police did not want to hinder citizens exercising their constitutional rights but simply tried to ensure that individuals do not misuse public meetings as opportunities for provocation.
The two Czechs, named only as Pavel B. and Robert K. lit two small paper flags during the Bush speech. Witnesses said that they lit the first flag at the request of an unspecified TV crew and then lit the second one because the crew allegedly liked the scene.
