JÁN SLOTA no longer chairs the nationalist Slovak National Party (SNS), after 153 of 156 delegates present at a meeting of the party in Žilina elected Andrej Danko to the chairman post. Slota announced his departure after the March general elections in which the party failed to gain the 4.55 percent of the vote necessary to gain seats in parliament.
Slota will become an honorary chairman of the party, without the right of veto. Danko promised that the SNS would try to find new ways to attract voters, particularly among those who disagree with the rule of a one-party government and the measures it passes.
The delegates also elected new deputy chairs of the SNS: Rafael Rafaj, Roman Stopka and Milan Frič, SITA wrote.
