The Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute stated on its internet site that the level of the Danube River continued rising overnight. After flooding areas around Devín, the river began to flood the Bratislava borough of Petržalka during the evening of June 25.
In Devin, waterworks employees and firefighters assisted citizens after water from the Danube commingled with rainwater and flooded a part of the Slovanské Nabrezie embankment. Mobile barriers and levee protection have not been used yet as the barrier still has sufficient reserves.
A second degree flood alert has been in effect in Medveďov where the river's level rose to 714 cm but “it still doesn't pose a threat to our properties," Medveďov mayor László Morva told the TASR on June 25.
On June 26, a first degree flood alert was declared in Gabčíkovo and Komárno, the TASR newswire wrote. At 6:00 on June 26, the Danube River rose to 813 centimetres in Devín while it was 739 cm in Medveďov and 623 cm in Komárno.
Until noon on June 27, the highest flood alert is announced for the western part of the Danube region in Slovakia while in Danube lowland areas it is in force until noon on June 26. TASR
