As of 2009, parents who fail to make child support payments will have their driving licenses suspended, according to an amendment proposal drawn up by HZDS chairman Vladimír Mečiar and his fellow-party MPs Katarína Tóthová and Ľudmila Mušková.
Orders currently in place make it possible to deduct the sums owed from salaries and other income, assign a debt and sell assets, securities or companies, but the government states that difficulties remain in collecting payments.
If the proposal is passed in parliament, executors will have the power to confiscate driving licenses, which will only be returned when the debt is paid. The only exception will be for people who make their living directly from driving. Such confiscations will only be allowed for owing child support payments and not for any other debts. TASR
