Defence Minister František Kašický fired the general director of the Military Maintenance Company (VOP), Jozef Berák, on March 14.
Kašický said he no longer trusts the company management due to its actions after the March 2 explosion at the company’s munitions defusing hall.
Berák has been replaced by the VOP’s current technical director, Ján Lasab, who is the sole member of the company's board of directors at the moment.
The supervisory board underwent personnel changes, too.
However, some think that the defence minister himself holds responsibility for the disaster. Mikuláš Dzurinda, leader of the opposition Slovak Democratic and Christian Union, will meet today, March 16, with Béla Bugár, leader of the Hungarian Coalition Party, and Pavol Hrušovský, leader of the Christian Democratic Movement, to discuss taking action against Kašický regarding reports that the minister had neglected his duties.
