INTERIOR Minister Vladimír Palko has decided to put a civil defence unit on stand-by during the summer Olympics in Greece.
According to the private news agency SITA, Palko promised Slovak assistance during a recent meeting of the Justice and Home Affairs Council called in Brussels to discuss measures against possible terrorist attacks during the games.
Greece has asked Slovakia for humanitarian aid in the event of the deployment of a toxic chemical or radioactive substance.
The unit established by the Interior Ministry will be on stand-by for the whole of August at Bratislava's Milan Rastislav Štefánik Airport.
The unit, consisting of six members, could be deployed within 12 hours.
