The trade union in Senica-based cable-bundle producer Delphi Slovensko called off the strike alert on Monday, December 10, after reaching an agreement with the company management concerning higher severance payments for its 540 employees due to be laid off. Based on the length of employment, employees will receive 4.7-11 times their monthly salary.
"We view this as a success," the TASR newswire was told by chairman of the company's trade union Viera Vrábliková. The strike alert was on for about a month. Delphi, a German company which is winding down its operations here, has announced mass lay-offs at the local job centre, with 85 employees scheduled to lose their jobs by the end of the year, and the others set to go by June 2014. The company employs 800 people in total.
