THE GOVERNMENT yesterday recalled Deputy Transport Minister Mikuláš Kačaljak from his post at his own request.
Kačaljak, a member of the ruling New Citizen's Alliance (ANO) party, had been deputy minister since September 24, 2003, the TASR news agency reported.
His decision came after a recommendation from his party to step down because Kačaljak’s firm owes several million crowns to social insurer Sociálna Poisťovňa.
ANO chairman Pavol Rusko said the step was politically absolutely necessary to avoid "any shadow of doubt" cast on the party.
ANO will decide who will succeed Kačaljak in the near future.
