A plane belonging to Slovakia-based airline SkyEurope will remain detained at Paris Orly Airport, a French court in Creteil ruled on July 28.

"The Court ruled in favour of Paris Orly Airport, which will keep the plane," Helene Caillet from Paris Orly Airport’s press department told the TASR newswire. The airport has been holding the plane for more than five weeks for what it says are unpaid take-off and landing fees, during which time SkyEurope has been granted protection from its creditors by a court in Bratislava.

Based on the general application of EU laws and regulations, another French court decided earlier in July that the aircraft should be released. Secretary-General of the Court of Higher Instance in Creteil Ghislaine Cavailles confirmed that her ruling came into effect at the moment the verdict was announced, meaning that the plane should have been released immediately.

However, Paris Orly Airport decided to appeal against the ruling and held on to the plane. SkyEurope declined to comment on the latest court ruling. "We will present our official stance after we have obtained the ruling in writing," said SkyEurope spokesman Tomáš Kika.
