On October 28, a man from Detva, aged 30, was apprehended while transporting drugs from the Czech Republic to Slovakia in his car.
“On the D2 highway behind the former Brodské border crossing, mobile police patrols were trying to uncover goods that could have escaped customs control,” Miroslava Slemenská of the communication department of the Financial Administration informed the TASR newswire. “Police officers from Skalica were conducting preventive road checks,” she added. Using a police dog trained to find narcotics and psychotropic substances, the officers performed a routine inspection of the Detva man’s car.
Police uncovered “a plastic bag with thee smaller plastic bags with pressure seals. The bags contained a white crystalline substance weighing 1,128.86 grams. Experts confirmed it was enough amphetamine to make at least 20,000 to 85,000 doses of the drug. The value of such amount of drugs on the black market varies between €140,000 to €1,020,000,” Slemenská added. She said that thanks to the effective coordination of all participating sides, the police investigator was able to place the man in custody, who if convicted could face 20 to 25 years in prison.
