Police detained the head of the district traffic police inspectorate in Senec on the morning of January 26 when he was caught taking a bribe at his workplace, the Interior Ministry informed the SITA newswire.
The ministry’s spokeswoman, Lucia Garajová, said that ministry inspectors have charged the police officer with a continuing crime of accepting bribes. Beginning from September 15, 2010 until now he was charged with accepting cash payments during working hours and also at other times at the premises of the traffic police inspectorate in Senec.
The spokeswoman specified that the police chief accepted bribes for faster registration of motor vehicles that were on the waiting list as well as for not checking the identity of the car owner.
Garajová added that an investigator from the ministry's inspection section started a criminal investigation on November 2 against the individual for allegedly accepting bribes and abusing the powers of a public official.
