POLICE have recommended that a former senior physician, identified as Pavol P from Trenčín, be charged with 38 counts of corruption. According to the Hospodárske noviny daily, the doctor demanded a total of Sk1.2 million (€31,600) in bribes, and accepted Sk880,000 (€23,200).
Pavol P, the former head of the orthopedic department at the hospital in Trenčianske Teplice, was arrested on April 25 last year in a sting operation.
The doctor demanded and accepted bribes between 2002 and 2003 for orthopedic operations. During that period police documented 17 cases.
After Trenčianske Teplice hospital was absorbed by Trenčín hospital, Pavol P continued to demand bribes, and between 2004 and 2005 accepted a total of Sk425,000 (€11,360).
