Doprastav might build Višňové tunnel

The state has allegedly chosen construction company Doprastav, which recently had its accounts frozen, to build the most important section of the cross-country D1 highway: the tunnel near Višňové. The company has already received a letter from the National Highway Company (NDS) in which the state has accepted its offer, the Hospodárske Noviny daily reported in its June 14 issue.

“We have been waiting for this letter for more than 10 years,” said Ivan Šesták, co-owner of Doprastav, as quoted by Hospodárske Noviny.

The company could receive up to €383 million for this particular job, which might help the firm solve its financial problems which occurred after companies in Poland failed to pay invoices worth more than €40 million to Doprastav. The banks subsequently froze Doprastav’s accounts, which resulted in the halting of construction at several sites.

According to former head of NDS Juraj Čermák, the construction of Višňové tunnel might be a buoy for the firm, as reported by Hospodárske Noviny.

Current NDS representatives did not comment on the business, while Transport Minister Ján Počiatek said that the construction of the tunnel might start in a few months, Hospodárske Noviny wrote.
