Forty-six ambassadors to Slovakia are meeting in Košice on Friday and Saturday (October 12 and 13) to discover more about the region, the TASR newswire reported, citing Košice city spokesperson Martina Viktorinová. The visit is the latest in a series of annual diplomatic sessions organised by the Slovak Foreign Ministry, each time in a different region of Slovakia.
The organisers chose Košice and its surroundings as the venue this year because the 'metropolis of the east' is set to become a European Capital of Culture in 2013. The ambassadors will meet Košice's mayor, Richard Raši, on Friday; learn about local investment projects; and have a tour around the city. The programme will also feature the opening of an exhibition called 'Košice, European Capital of Culture 2013, through the Eyes of Diplomats'. On Saturday, the guests will meet Zdenko Trebula, the chairman of the Košice Self-Governing Region and visit the Trebišov Nature Museum and local wine cellars.
