A proposed law to scrap MPs’ immunity from criminal prosecution is likely to be finished this week, Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) MP Radoslav Procházka said, as reported by the TASR newswire.
“We have agreed that we could come to a final agreement on Thursday [May 17],” said Procházka, as quoted by TASR, after a meeting of the working group that is preparing the draft.
The working group first met on May 11 in order to draw up an amendment to the constitution and the Criminal Code, both of which are necessary to scrap the immunity. The group consists of representatives of all six parliamentary parties, since at least 90 MPs’ votes (out of 150) are needed to pass the amendment.
If it is approved by parliament, the legislative change would come into effect as of September 1.
