THERE ARE 10 times more people addicted to alcohol than to soft drugs in Slovakia, Ľubomír Okruhlica, the head of the Centre for Therapy for Drug Dependencies, told the TASR news agency March 27.
According to him, there are 20,000 to 30,000 people addicted to alcohol and around 2,000 who are habitual marijuana users in Slovakia. Alcohol is the most commonly used drug because it is legal, he explained.
However, the number of people dependent on marijuana is also on the rise. Marijuana dependency is almost exclusively a matter of an individual's psychology. And that is why so many people return to drugs after the treatment, Okruhlica said.
