Drink tea, doctors advice thirsty Slovaks

CONTRARY to what many thirsty Slovaks believe, doctors say that herbal and fruit tea and mineral water are better than beer at preventing dehydration in the nation's ongoing heat wave.

Bratislava last weekend experienced record heat of 36.1 degrees Celsius. Doctors say that if people are to avoid dehydration they should drink a minimum of three litres of liquid a day and stay away from alcohol.

"Many people wrongly believe that a sufficient supply of liquids can be simply interchanged with beer. That, however, is not the best solution," said Darina Kukučková, a doctor at Bratislava's Kramáre hospital.
