A record dry spell in the east of Slovakia is threatening spring crops and has brought ground water supplies to dangerous lows, say regional officials. Košice city has seen only 56 millimeters of rain this year, the least in the past 100 years, as a high pressure zone over Ukraine has prevented the arrival of the usual spring showers.
