The 2007-13 EU budget draft, as proposed by British Prime Minister Tony Blair on December 5, makes further discussion on the final agreement possible, Slovak Prime Minister Mikuláš Dzurinda said on December 6.
Dzurinda is suggesting an increase in the amount allocated for regional aid for the new EU member states, as well as improving flexibility in the use of the allocated money, the TASR news wire reported.
"We'll be trying to secure a better final version of the financial plan than the one specified in the current proposal,” Dzurinda told reporters.
Dzurinda, who has been more positive in his reaction to Blair's proposal than V4 counterparts Hungary and Poland, added that it is important that the EU25 finds agreement on the budget at the EU summit, set to begin in Brussels on December 15.
