The result of an agreement between two ruling coalition parties, Smer
and HZDS, about the conditions of supporting the government’s amendment on the social security is a mere fragment of the original proposal, SDKÚ chairman Mikuláš Dzurinda said at his party’s press conference. And the core of the provisions, which were supposed to bring extra money and ease the tension in the public budget, will be omitted, he said.
Dzurinda said PM Robert Fico got a slap in the face “as Mečiar convicted him of the incompetence of his government, and that it was acting absolutely without any plan”.
He thought the amendment, which would probably be passed, only seemed to increase the budget of the social security provider Sociálna Poisťovňa, and “to improve the situation of Tomanová’s friends,” he said.
He said the opposition planned to file a petition against this move.
