At a summit in Copenhagen on October 28, the leaders of the countries applying for EU membership began to study a deal on financing the Union’s eastward expansion, with Slovak PM Mikuláš Dzurinda saying he hoped to change the terms of agricultural subisidies.
Under the deal, reached before the weekend between EU leaders, candidate countries would receive only 25 per cent of the agricultural subsidies that current members get, reaching par level only in 2013.
Dzurinda also said he disagreed with six terms of the EU deal, but that “it wouldn’t be smart” to say what those were.
