President Rudolf Schuster on Friday formally gave current PM Mikuláš Dzurinda a mandate to continue talks on forming the next cabinet among a group of four right-wing parties.
In other parties, however, the results of recent elections continued to shake up leadership positions.
Peter Weiss, a former communist with almost 13 years in post-1989 politics, on Friday resigned his post as election leader of the social democratic SDA party following its failure to win enough votes to enter parliament.
Members of the opposition HZDS party were reported by the Sme daily paper to be preparing a national congress at which they will propose the recall of leader Vladimír Mečiar following the party’s worst-ever election result September 20-21.
The central council of the far-right opposition Slovak National Party demanded the resignation of party leader Anna Malíková following the party’s failure to secure enough votes to enter parliament.
