Slovak Prime Minister Mikuláš Dzurinda described the government's "unshakeable" desire to make Slovakia a NATO country at the 16th NATO international workshop, held this year in Budapest on June 21.
At a dinner hosted by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, Dzurinda cited as proof of Slovakia's NATO enthusiasm the active pro-NATO stance his government has taken on the Balkan conflict, especially by allowing warplanes to fly over national territory. He also declared his desire to send Slovak soldiers to join KFOR forces in Kosovo.
Dzurinda said he believes Slovakia has all chances to enter NATO as soon as it is ready for another expansion. "This time we are resolved not to miss this chance," he remarked.
The NATO workshop took place under wings of Hungarian President Arpád Göncz. Chief of NATO forces in Europe Wesley Clark, Czech President Vaclav Havel, Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus and Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Drnovšek were among the invited guests.
