OUTGONG PM Mikuláš Dzurinda has made clear his intention to set up a ruling coalition that would include his Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ), the SMK, the KDH and the Vladimír Me?iar’s HZDS.
"We are the second strongest party, with a considerable lead over the third [party]. It would be irresponsible for us to just bury our heads in the sand," Dzurinda said.
According to the daily Pravda, Dzurinda has said such a coalition would be the most stable because it would provide equal partnership to all the parties involved. He also told KDH and SMK leaders that forming a coalition with Smer would do them no good.
If formed, the right-wing coalition would have an 80-seat majority in the 150-seat parliament. But the initiative is expected to fail because the KDH has refused to cooperate with Mečiar.
