TWO employers in Žilina face charges of illegally screening employee e-mail. The employers, a 48-year-old woman and 22-year-old man, allegedly looked into the e-mail communications of their employees and in the process appropriated ideas and used them for their own benefit, the SITA newswire wrote. Now the bosses could wind up in jail.
Last year, a journalist who was working for a small Žilina publishing house came up with an idea for a new kind of magazine.
“She communicated her idea with her colleagues through her private e-mail,” the Žilina regional police spokesperson Jana Balogová told the Sme daily.
“This year, she learned that her employer had used her idea, and published it in a magazine."
The journalist, not named, suspected her employer of stealing her idea and went to the police.
According to Balogová, the two Žilina employers have been charged with violating the confidentiality of transmitted messages and of abusing that information.
They face a sentence of three months to three years.
Balogová said that one of the accused has already confessed.
