Subsequently, Barroso had lunch with Prime Minister Robert Fico, during which the officials were scheduled to discuss current EU issues.

The Economics University in Bratislava will present the Commission chief with the academic title of Doctor Honoris Causa. The Portuguese politician will subsequently deliver a lecture at the university entitled 'Slovakia in the Heart of Europe'.

Barroso is also expected to be present at the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Slovak gas-pipeline operator Eustream and Ukrainian operator Ukrtransgaz on ensuring the so-called small reverse gas flow from Slovakia to Ukraine through the Vojany thermal power plant.
