Because of concerns over volcanic ash from the Icelandic volcano Grímsvötn, a scheduled flight from Edinburgh, Scotland, to Bratislava due to arrive at 10:45 in the morning on May 24, was cancelled. The return flight to Edinburgh scheduled to leave at 11:10 was also cancelled, the SITA newswire reported.
The cancellations affected 240 passengers. Passengers who missed the flight can apply for a reimbursement or re-book their flight on the company’s website.
According to airport’s spokesperson Dana Madunická as quoted by SITA, all other flights from Bratislava are expected to leave on schedule on the 24th.
Airport officials in Bratislava recommend that passengers keep an eye on information published on airline websites, as the situation can change quickly depending on the weather and the movement of the ash cloud.
Volcanic ash caused several delays and cancellations at airports across the UK on May 24, particularly in Scotland, northern England and Northern Ireland, the Sme daily reported.
