Education Minister Peter Pellegrini has dismissed head of the ministry’s agency for EU structural funds, Marián Kostolányi.

“I have decided for a change due to my dissatisfaction with the way the agency functions,” the minister said on August 26, as quoted by the Pravda daily. He cited that the ratio of drawn EU-funds is less than 60 percent of those available. Shortcomings and errors in matters falling under the agency’s remit also contributed to Kostolányi’s sacking, he said.

Pellegrini also said, according to the SITA newswire, that the agency made mistakes in issues that ministry required from it, and that are crucial for the drawing of EU-funds within the operational programme to be unblocked by the EU. The minister also authorised the current head of the agency’s office, Róbert Škripek, to lead the agency.
